The Paleo diet is often referred to as the Stone Age diet. This diet encourages people to eat like how their ancestors have been eating for generations. Paleo diet is made up of the following: fish, meat, eggs, poultry, shellfish, berries, fruits, roots and veggies. This diet does not allow the following foods: sugar, legumes, salt, dairy and grains.

Possible precautions of the Paleo diet

The Paleo diet encourages more vegetables and fruits while reducing the consumption of sodium and sugar that is common in modern nutritional guidelines. By eliminating dairy and grains, the Paleo diet may make you deficient in minerals and vitamins like vitamin B, calcium and vitamin D. Lack of whole grains in this diet eliminates the required fiber that is needed for the minimization of lifestyle diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart diseases. The contents of this diet furthermore exceed the intake recommendations of proteins while limiting the requirements of carbohydrates. 

In case you want to follow the Paleo diet regime, you should take mineral supplements and daily multivitamins; also make sure that you get more of vitamin D, vitamin B as well as calcium because it is not found in great quantities in the Paleo diet.

This diet encourages better habits, though it may be unrealistic. It is therefore necessary that the diet is modified through the eating of grass-fed meat, organic produce and wild caught fish. You should ensure that you supplement this diet with regular exercise in order to realize disease prevention and weight loss.  

The Paleo diet is very difficult to sustain particularly when you consider the acquired palette and modern lifestyle. It is very important to consider balanced diets that are more liberal and contain a lot of fiber, whole grains, vegetables, more fruits and dairy. Eliminating dairy, legumes, and whole grains can at times place you at a risk situation of experiencing deficiencies in minerals and vitamins. This diet also lacks some variety needed in any diet.  

Paleo diet is also considered to be very expensive when compared to eating whole grains, pasta and bread. For people suffering from chronic diabetes, the Paleo diet may result in their inability to experience symptoms reversal. For those people with low blood pressure, they may be unable to limit their capacity of salt intake.. 

The diet is considered low in carbohydrates and the followers of the diet quickly lose weight because of high concentration of refined carbohydrates. Paleo diet recommends grass-fed meat that is devoid of growth hormones and antibiotics. However, these foods can be more expensive and not as readily available. This makes the diet an unsustainable one because it requires conventional resources like water, livestock and land. It also requires non-renewable energy that can keep renewable energy much available throughout. The huge amounts of proteins provided by Paleo diet can be a heavy load for the kidneys to withstand. The intake of high proteins has the tendency to deplete calcium.
