If you love sweets, you’re not alone. Many people love to have a dessert or sweet treat at the end of a meal or long day. But can you have sweets and dessert when you are living a Paleo lifestyle? You bet you can!

When you’re on the Paleo diet, it’s not uncommon to feel deprived, especially when it comes to desserts. With some careful planning and attention to the sweets you can have, it’s possible to curb that sweet tooth with some Paleo-friendly desserts that satisfy.

Tea with honey

Tea is a fantastic option when you’re craving something sweet but don’t want all of the extra calories. Great choices include peppermint tea and other varieties of mint tea like spearmint or mixed. Pu-erh tea is also another great option because it gives you better mental clarity. Another great tea is yerba mate. Add a little honey for an even sweeter cup of tea, but don’t overdo it in order to keep your tea Paleo-friendly and low in calories. 

Xylitol gum

Xylitol gum is a naturally sweetened gum that is great for keeping your teeth healthy and free of decay. While this kind of gum can be a bit pricey, it is much better than chewing bubble gum that is laden with cavity-causing sugars. You can usually find xylitol gum at your local health food store, so stock up if you have a sweet tooth that always needs to be satisfied.

Fruit

While fruit in large quantities is normally not recommended on the Paleo diet, it can be a nutritious way to satiate those cravings for something sweet and sugary. Good choices are mixed berries like strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Another good fruit choice for your sweet tooth are apples. Apples provide much needed fiber as well as nutrition and fuel for before and after workouts. Raisins are another good choice along with bananas, which are also great to take along when you’re camping.

While the Paleo diet does not encourage the consumption of sweets, it’s perfectly fine to indulge in your sweet tooth every now and then. It’s better to give in to your sweet cravings a little than to fully ignore them. The reality is you can still live a Paleo lifestyle but you don’t have to give up everything you enjoy. It is all about moderation!
